Peace, War and Neutrality at the Museum
The school’s History Department is constantly striving to make History as relevant as possible to students. With this in mind, an outing, to the Ulster Museum, took place recently. The visit was planned to provide pupils with an understanding of their GCSE course ‘Peace, War and Neutrality; Britain, Northern Ireland and the Second World War’. This was a unique opportunity for pupils to discover the impact that the Second World War had on daily life in Northern Ireland. They explored the world of air raid precautions, rationing and evacuation during the Blitz through the use of original costume and a wide range of objects and artefacts from the time. Of course there was also time to examine the many other interesting areas of the museum during the trip, such as the Mummy, the Giant Squid and Tyrannosaurus Rex and the lunchtime treat of a MacDonald’s just rounded the day off nicely!
