As the theme of this year’s National Poetry Day was Heroes and Heroines, the teaching and library staff of the Lurgan Campus decided that it would be appropriate to support the heroes and heroines who work so diligently for the charity Fields of Life by holding a fundraising quiz. The competition was based around poetry written on the theme of heroism, poems such as ‘The Hero’ by Siegfried Sassoon and ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade’ by Lord Alfred Tennyson. Students were asked to identify the title and writer of ten poems from brief excerpts which they were given in the hope of being rewarded with a box of Cadbury’s Heroes. The competition is ongoing and to date has raised a significant amount of money for the charity. Thank you to all those who have taken part in this venture.
