Why study GCSE Physical Education?
- To understand how to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

- To develop an understanding of health and safety requirements when exercising.

Who should study GCSE PE?
- Pupils who play at least one school sport.
- Pupils who regularly participate in school PE classes.
- Pupils who want to improve their performance in sport.
- Pupils who wish to work in the sports industry.
- Pupils who wish to go into Further Education to study courses such as “A” Level PE, Sports Science, Leisure and Tourism or Sport and Recreation.

- Theory (classroom based) – 50%
- The body at work
- Health and Lifestyle decisions
- The active leisure industry and event management
- Developing physical fitness for performance
- Developing skilled performance
- Practical – 50%
- 3 chosen sports
- Performance analysis
How is the course assessed?
- 50% Practical, 50% Theory
- There is one single tier of entry. This allows pupils to achieve grades in the range of A* – G.

Why study B Tec Sport?

- 2 core units
- Fitness for sport and exercise
- Practical sports performance
- 2 units from the following:
- The mind and sports performance
- The sports performer in action
- Training for personal fitness
- Leading sports activities
How is the course assessed?
- 1 exam, practical activities and assignments assessed by the teacher.
- Marks are given as pass, merit and distinction and are equivalent to GCSE standard.
